Awareness in Action #5

So when a siberian tiger (a carnivorous wild predator) living at a family run animal sanctuary in Kansas mauls and subsequently kills a teenager posing with it, our response as a society is to kill the tiger after the fact?

There you go! "Take THAT tiger!" How about putting down the owner/handler who was supposed to be restraining him and invited the girl over to him for a picture? How about donating the endangered animal to a zoo with properly trained staff or releasing it into the wild?

I guess any other wild animals in captivity will think twice now before carrying out their natural instincts.

Meanwhile, in our justice system, the average time served for a murder conviction is less than ten years (for humans).

and before any of you ask: if aspen had been killed in this way, NO I would NOT have a change of heart and would NOT want to see the animal put down. i am anti death penalty for animals or humans, even if the victim was kin. thats what karma (or a just god-if youre a theist) is for.
p.s. i understood this report to say that the animal was killed AFTER it had been restrained

Quote from NBC news: "The tiger was reportedly killed and taken away for examination." It doesn't say exactly when, but I'd like to know is what the heck they'll be examining? It's a wild beast for crying out loud. It's a man eater... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they're unpredictable. Ask Siegfried & Roy.

My other problem with this is the following quote: "Haley Hilderbrand of Altamont, Ks., was taking her senior high school photos on Thursday posing with a tiger a family-run Lost Creek Animal Sanctuary in southern Kansas." What the HELL kind of school is this that they would allow your high school portraits to be taken with a tiger?!?!?!?! Whatever happened to the snap-on tuxedo shirts and jackets???

It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant people are. The first thing I though when reading this is about Bush and his fucking ‘culture of life.’ Don’t fucking start a war and put more people to death then any other governor at the time then talk to me about culture of life. He makes me sick. The tiger had more of right to maul someone then they did having their picture taken with it. Grrrrr

That poor tiger,,,,and all the others in that 'sanctuary'...(now theres an oxymoron ...huh?) that had to witness this....wondering when they are next.....who are we to make these decisions? Let's start a "War on Tigers" so those tigers know we're not going to put up with their maulings anymore!

Brico:

Pussies aside, I actually had YOU in mind when making my latest "pitch" to FOX. I remember how much you enjoyed "When Good Cyber-Sex Goes bad"

has anyone heard of a project at cornel university that looks at bringing certain breeds of lions, cheetahs and elephants to north america. the theory being, that these animals were once partially native to these lands. yeah, maybe a million years prior. but does anyone think that today's population could handle confrontations with elephants, lions and cheetahs? they can hardly deal with native animals here.
